Purpose of blog

For some time I've been thinking that a lot of our social problems could be better understood by modeling and simulations. While a lot of this is probably done in universities somewhere I thought I could pose such problems and maybe create some level of simple simulations to better understand this.

Some of the problems I have an idea to model are the following:
  1. Reservations in education and their effectiveness: While a highly debated social topic nobody has come forward with proof that reservations are really effective or otherwise. My hope is that a simulation will display that reservations especially into higher calibre schools are not the right way to go to move the uneducated 'oppressed' sections of society into the main stream
  2. City Development: A study to look at how municipalities should be developing their cities and what the effect of their actions are.
Welcome all comments and especially since I'm not a trained statistician or social scientist poking holes in my assumptions and modeling will be most appreciated.

My main goal is to take us farther and farther away as a country from the "Arundhati Roy Syndrome". Definition below.

Arundhati Roy Syndrome: The tendency to blame and accuse social policy or events but have no suggestion whatsoever as to how to solve any of these problems.
